A visit to Rocky Mountain National Park

We recently visited Rocky Mountain National Park for a few days of camping, hiking, and fishing. We stayed at Glacier Basin Campground for three nights. The campground offers campsites, restrooms, and a dump station, but no showers or hookups. This was our first time boondocking and we survived! It actually wasn’t as bad as we expected. We have solar panels on the Basecamp, so we were able to have lights and charge our electronics. We ran our refrigerator on propane, but also had ice chests for food and drinks. The only thing we missed was a shower, but we took along some body wipes and that was fine for a few days.

The first day we hiked to Sprague Lake from the campground, where we had fantastic views of Hallet Peak. The next morning we brought fishing gear, parked at Bear Lake Trailhead and hiked to Nymph Lake and Dream Lake to try to catch some trout. Well, at least we thought we might catch some trout. No such luck.

The following day we drove Trail Ridge Road to check out the rest of Rocky Mountain National Park. We stopped at Horseshoe Park, Forest Canyon Overlook, and Hidden Valley. We saw all kinds of animals on our trip including ducks, deer, elk, and marmots.
