Watching Ships at the Soo Locks – Sault Ste. Marie Adventure!

After crossing the Mackinaw Bridge, we make our way into the Upper Peninsula to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where we stay at Aune Osborn Campground and watch huge freighters pass by. While there we spent time at the Soo Locks watching as large iron ore ships passed from Lake Superior, down the St Marys River and into Lake Huron. The locks exist to lower boats from Lake Superior the lower Great Lakes and eventually can reach the Atlantic. The trip between Superior the lower lakes take approximately 9 hours!

We also stopped to grab some Ice Cream in Sault Ste Marie’s great downtown area, ate lunch and had a beer at Soo Brewing, and had an amazing time with a tire blow scare. We highly recomend tht you have a tire pressure monitor, since we have run into a flat and were saved by the TPMS. Looking forward, we are almost to the end of our time in Michigan with just one more stop. After this, we are off to Minnesota!
