An Epic URBAN Rally - Streamin' the Gap in Cumberland Gap, TN
We were told this urban rally was a must-do and it did not disappoint. We met Bill and Frances from @RamblinHamblins as well as Chris and Gina @TheRivetedFox and headed to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee for our first urban rally, Streamin the Gap!
The Guardians of the Gap, a non-profit organization to preserve, protect, and promote Cumberland Gap; coordinated the rally, welcoming 30 Airstreams to park on the main road, Colwyn Street, in downtown Cumberland Gap!
We arrived on Thursday and our check-in began at Daniel Boone Visitor Center, where we were escorted to park on Colwyn Street. We parked the Airstream and started meeting people and exploring the area. We had a welcome party and dinner that night at The Olde Church where we also got to hear a bit of Cumberland Gap's history from Dr. Lucas Wilder.
Friday morning we hiked up to the Tri-State Overlook, where we stood in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky at the same time. The schedule included a tour of Cumberland Gap's Tunnel and the Lincoln Memorial University's Veterinary School. We had a historical walking tour curated by Dr. Tony Maxwell and dinner at the Olde Mill Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Saturday we had coffee and breakfast at Gap Creek Coffee House, then explored the city. We voted on our favorite pumpkin dish at the community event, Let's Eat and Drink Pumpkin which was sponsored by Guardians of the Gap. Then we headed up to The Pinnacle Overlook and had some pretty amazing views of the Airstream Rally.
With rain in the forecast, we woke up early Sunday morning to say goodbye to friends, leaving Cumberland Gap in the rearview. We will be back! Thanks for putting on such an incredible rally and having such a welcoming community.
