Last year I purchased the ilovetorun.org calendar. I wanted a visual way to show all of my hardwork. In addition to logging workouts in Garmin and Training Peaks, having something to physically mark off was surprisingly satisfying. On days where I didn’t feel like working out, I would see the chain of Xs and (most of the time) it would motivate me to not break the sequence.
Up until September, when my life took a dramatic turn to the west, the calendar was quite impressive, especially compared to my lack to commitment in the years past. The last quarter of the year, with the calendar packed away in a box, my progress was dismal. A new house, a new job, and a new part of the country really took a toll on my exercising. If you look close enough, there are a couple of lonely Xs in there.
This year, I’m taking the same approach. A new calendar is hung, and on Jan 2 I have a chain of two Xs. Whoohoo! Here’s to a new year and a getting better every day.
