Subscription Services – August 2015

Nothing like waiting until the last day of the month to reveal our StrideBox and Headsweats goodies.

The StrideBox included an Amrita apricot and strawberry energy bar, Crank Sports electrolyte energy gel, Honey Stinger grapefruit energy chews (happy to receive this, we were running low), First Endurance cucumber water, Pure Clean beet juice powder (not too sure about this one), Sportea energy tea, Dr. Hoy’s pain relief gel, and an All Good sunscreen stick.  As always, our StrideBox also contained an inspirational sticker.

This month’s Headsweats box contained a Loudmouth Supervisor Steppin Out.  After some debate, the visor is mine.  Nick gets first right to refusal next month.

Weekly Activity Report 08/23/2015

We certainly are stepping it up.  Our Fitbit stats and distances are higher than they’ve been in awhile.  We’ve solicited the help of a friend to try to keep us on track with our training.  So far, we’ve hit every workout on the schedule.

Our month was active on the bike and run, our other disciplines suffered.  Back on the wagon, though.  I’m anticipating August to be a strong month.

Our gym has been under renovation since April, and our visits have declined, with June at an all time low.  Health club dues in July were $18.99 per visit.

Weekly Activity Report 08/16/2015

Neither Nick nor I received our Fitbit stats for the week ending 08/09/2015, which suits me just fine.  We will report on the race, just know it didn’t go according to plan.  Right now, we’re headed to the gym to work on improving our swim.

One Week To Go

We are now in the final stretch to Steelhead 70.3.  Over the past couple of months we have had our ups and downs with training.  Workouts skipped and not made up, workouts cut short due to fatigue or illness, workouts just plain adjusted for laziness were all experienced.

Swims were a challenge and are still my biggest concern for race day.  In addition to being open water, I have read recently that the waves can be difficult to deal with.  I am hoping for a calm morning.  Water temperatures have remained in the low 70s for the past couple of weeks, at 7am this morning it was just below 70.  Either way, well within the limit for wetsuits and that will make me slightly faster.

Cycling has been enjoyable.  Learning to eat while still moving was fun.  Maintaining a cadence over a long ride has proven slightly easier than I expected and I feel like I am very prepared for this part of the race.  Hills around our area are very similar to the course with the exception of a single very large climb at the beginning of the cycle course.

Running has probably been my most neglected part of training, which was probably stupid since it will be at that point that I am already very tired from swim/bike that I would rather have done it.

One week away and we are both very excited for the race and the trip.
